Let’s have a healthy detox after a busy Christmas!
Christmas has come and gone. We had a terrific time, but we did eat and drink a little bit more than we were planning to beforehand. The result? We’re a bit heavier and our bodies are retaining more water because of all the sweet and salty food we’ve eaten.
Time to detox!
Drinks
When Christmas is over, we usually feel the need to stabilise a little: eat healthily, drink enough water and get rid of those Christmas dinner pounds again. Of course, the basis of this process is healthy food and enough exercise, but these three detox drinks we’ve got for you today can also offer a good solution. Consider these drinks as an addition to your healthy lifestyle. They will help you to get rid of that extra water in your body in no time!
1. Lemon water
This is a true classic: warm water with a bit of lemon. Lemon helps you digest that Christmas food and stimulates your metabolism. It also contains a lot of vitamin C, which supports your immune system and cleanses your liver. That’s why it’s good to start your day with a glass of warm water with the juice of half a lemon added to it before you eat or drink anything else.
Want to know about the other two drinks that’ll help you detox? You’re probably already regularly drinking one of them! Go to the next page to read all about it!
2. Detox smoothie
A smoothie consists of fruits and vegetables and gives you a much-needed vitamin boost after those days of unhealthy eating. A smoothie with citrus fruits (lemon, orange, tangerine, grapefruit), vegetables (especially green ones like spinach, broccoli, kale, arugula) and other detoxing ingredients like coconut, chia seeds and watercress gives you an energy boost and stimulates your bowel movement. Pick one ingredient from each category and have a delicious smoothie for breakfast! Tip: to make it all a little sweeter you can add half a banana.
3. Tea
Tea can also help to detox your body. Through the use of tea you can stimulate the burning of fat in your body, and you will also detox your liver and lose any excess water. Oftentimes, certain types of tea are indicated as being ‘detox tea’, but green tea, white tea and herbal tea are just as effective.
