For the first time in the history of the ballon d’or, the award will be decided by two men past their 30s, that is 32 and 34 years old competing seriously for football most elite prize.
And this got me thinking a lot because it either shows the young footballers aren’t doing well enough…
Or these two GOAT of modern soccer are just too good that the other lads wait for their retirements before they can get the Ballon d’or or other top football individual prize.
The ballon d’or will be determined by the UCL final and who gets to clinch the prestigious European trophy.
Messi and Ronaldo have been equally impressive for their respective clubs and will fight once more to outwit the other.
Each of them will be looking at outshining his counterpart to grab a record 6th ballon d’or- what an impressive record that will be!!!.
Since there’s the possibility of a Juventus Vs Barcelona final in this ongoing UCL season at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium on June 1st,
It is most likely the winner of the two gets the Ballon d’or. And that will be determined by other factors also.
And if neither Messi nor Ronaldo wins the UCL, still it will be difficult for other players to get the ballon d’or award.
Because other possible contenders like Mbappe, Griezmann and Neymar are all out.
So giving it to either Messi or Ronaldo will have to do with other titles they win this season, number of goals (both at UCL and respective leagues), impact on their teams, etc.
In that case Messi gets the upper hand and looks likely to win his 6th ballon d’or,
But some are of the opinion that Ronaldo‘s hattrick against Atletico Madrid is enough for him to win the ballon d’or.
