APC reacts to Obasanjo’s ‘state of the nation’ address, allegations against Buhari

- The All Progressive Congress (APC) says President Buhari is not planning to rig the 2019 presidential election
- The APC claims that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is being haunted by his past
- The party asks Obasanjo to bring himself to the reality of Buhari's proposed victory at the presidential election
The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), in the evening of Sunday, January 20, replied former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his allegations against President Muhammadu Buhari including plotting to rig the forthcoming election.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, the spokesperson of the APC, Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the party does not have any reason to even rig the election adding that the allegation was a mere imagination of the former president.
Issa-Onilu also said the former president was being haunted by his past adding:“We can understand where the former president is coming from; his past is haunting him.
“2003 and 2007 elections were nothing to write home about, those happened under former President Obasanjo. We all know how the elections went. So, for us in the APC, votes will count.”
Channels Television reports that the APC spokesperson noted that President Muhammadu Buhari had promised Nigerians that the election would be free and fair and thus would not have any reason to rig it.
“We are going to have a free, credible and fair election.
“We have no reasons to want to rig election; our achievements speak for us.
“Former President Obasanjo should adjust himself to the reality of imminent defeat that is staring him in the face,” he said.
Cyber19jablogspot.com earlier reported that Olusegun Obasanjo declared on Sunday, January 20, that President Muhammadu Buhari will return to Daura, his home town in Katsina state, if the 2019 presidential election is free, fair, peaceful and credible.
Obasanjo made this declaration when he addressed journalists at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
The former ECOWAS chairman whose address did not last more than eight minutes, simply gave out a booklet titled ‘Points for concern and action’ and asked the journalists present to go through it.
On page 14 of the booklet, Obasanjo wrote: “While Nigerians must appreciate Buhari for the little he has done and allow him to depart for home in peace if he allows free, fair, peaceful and credible elections, we must also tell ourselves that Nigeria deserves better at this point in time than what Buhari is capable of offering.
“History will note that he has been there. Nigeria now needs a man with better physical and mental soundness, with an active mind and intellect.
"In the next paragraph, he stated emphatically that the impunity will not last because “Nigeria is created by God and it will outlive all evil machinations and designs against the overall interest of Nigeria."
